'Frankenstorm': The Attack of Hurricane Sandy

It's a well know fact that us British love to moan about the weather. It could be the most beautiful summer's day with 28°C and a warm breeze and you can guarantee that somewhere out there a British person is pursing their lips and complaining that it is to hot!!!

But let's spare a thought for those American's who, far from complaining, embrace their often freak weather and who are approaching this Halloween with the threat of the ultimate 'Frankenstorm'. In particular, the dedicated weather reporters who brave the wind and rain to bring everyone the latest weather updates definitely deserve some serious kudos right now. Check out Styleite's homage to their practical meteorological fashion in their feature 10 Most Extreme Outfits Worn By Weather Reporters.

For those of you braving the storm The Week have published a really helpful fact sheet of 7 tips to stay safe which is a definite must to read. For those of us who fortunately out of harms way, this just put into perspective how frankly pleasant (in comparison) our current weather is and I'll definitely be thinking twice next time I have a weather-related rant (though to be fair it is inevitable that I cannot avoid them all together!).

Lets hope that the majority of people manage to keep safe and that it doesn't do too much damage. Below is the Weather Channel's live feed for the storm.

Do you know anyone who might be affected? Let's all send our prayers and best wishes...

Farewell Jacket Weather from Nelson Mandela and I...

Today was absolutely freezing!!! Autumn seems to have come out of nowhere and winter is fast approaching. It seems that in a week the leaves on the trees have turned from green to yellow, the temperature has drastically dropped and the seasons have completely changed!

For me, this sadly means that it is time to say goodbye to my leather jacket, my trusty accomplice for the last few months of dodgy and unpredictable weather. But fear not, for my other trusty goto - the cape! - has come out to play. Perfect for days like today when its not cold enough for the winter coat (I'll probably wait for it to get to 10°c or less) but is definitely not jacket weather (which to me is 15°c or above); a woollen cape is a total Godsend for days like today!

Today, a simple misunderstanding (on my part)! had me standing in the middle of Parliament Square for over half an hour in the wind, rain and cold! As much as I enjoyed the company of Nelson Mandela, had I been stood next to the correct Nelson Mandela statue (warmly located INSIDE of the Southbank Centre) then I would not have had to unnecessarily endure 11°c without shelter! Needless to say the cape saved the day again, and I live to tell the tale...

Here's what I what I had on...
Chilly chilly...
The tights I had on are from Primark, they have a great deal of a 3-pack (one black, one teal and one burgundy) for £3. The best things is that they use heat technology that adjust with the heat - so they warm you up when it's cold and keep you cool when it is hot! Definitely my top pick weather bargain!

What are you wearing right now? Let me know!!!

Skyfall...007 High Street Style

I have to admit, I am soooooo excited about the pending release of the new James Bond film Skyfall! Bond, Bond girls, glitz, glamour, danger and action, what's not to love! To celebrate tonight's UK premiere and in homage to the two latest additions to the long, historical list of Bond girls - Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe - I've put together a highstreet-friendly translation of two at a recent photo call in New York.

Naomi goes with a sexy, sophisticated LBD, perfect for practically any event in any climate. Whereas Berenice shows us how HOT a coat and boot look can be, giving us all hope as winter creeps in!

My Fashion Faux Pas...

This week saw fashionista Kim Kardashian admitting to a major fashion faux pas in her baggy yellow jacket and leather skirt combo. In the spirit of confession I too must admit that I made a major error in judgment, though to a much lesser extent.

Today, in my mission to outsmart and out-dress the weather...I was beaten! In my defence, I broke my own unwritten rule by not checking the weather before deciding what to wear or even leaving the house. Obviously, if I had check the weather and noted the torrential downpours that I'm sure must have been predicted for the afternoon, then I would not have worn my new Dorothy Perkins Leopard pumps and would have gone for more weather-proof footwear! Needless to say that they will never be the same again, particularly since a little trek through a muddy patch of grass insured that when I took them off they were soaked from the inside out!

A couple of hours under the heater and they are now right as rain (lol, awful pun I know!) and in a bid to avoid such horrific shoe atrocities I am on the search for a rain proof boot! Below are two I have taken a fancy too...but which ones?

Office Marshmallow Welly - £7.50

BUDGET: These wellies are a complete bargain at under a tenner, will definitely do the job of keeping my feet wet but are very wellie looking...

Dorothy Perkins Black Stud Back Biker Boots - £49

NOT-SO-BUDGET: These boots are so cute, on trend and could also definitely do the job. But would I really want to wear them in the rain?...

Which boots should I go for? Let me know by voting below!!!

All Weathers Item of the Week - River Island Baroque Print Cardigan

I spotted this week's item of the week a while ago, but as an obsessive bargain hunter did not allow myself to buy it, despite its dwindling online stock. But low and behold an alert from Polyvore surprised me the other night informing me that it had gone down to half price! Minutes later I was the proud owner of the ever so trendy Baroque Print Cardigan from River Island!

Baroque print is totally in right now and how better to effortless incorporate it into your wardrobe than in the form of a versatile cardigan? Able to be warn over a flowy dress on a summer's evening or with jeans and a scarf on a chilly autumn day (a bit like today...) I can wait to start wearing it! See below for a casual look for the cardigan, suitable for the current climate but can easily warn in warmer weather minus the tights.

How would you wear this trend? Let me know!!!

Rainy Day Retail Therapy - ASOS Sale

As predicted, today was another dismally grey affair in London town. This prompted some serious retail therapy (or browsing as it subsequently turned out) of which I am going to share with you...

I'm pretty sure that the ASOS sale has probably been on for a while but although it initially escaped my attention this was corrected when I came across how many goodies were available, not to mention the added bonus of an extra 10% off with the code MEGA10! Below are just a few items that caught my eye, all of which are under a tenner ;-). Happy shopping!!!

Top - £7.00
Bottoms - £4.50

This unusual bikini caught my eye both because of the print and its style. I slightly cheated here because all together it actually comes to £11.50 but as separates they are both under a tenner! They are loads of bikinis on offer at the moment so its a good time to stock up!

Leggings - £9.00

Animal print is still in at the mo and how better to channel your inner beast than with these leopard print leggings...?

Shirt - £9.00

This basic River Island shirt can be worn in so many ways. Plus it's available in both black and white! See Grazia's 5 Ways to Update a Classic White Shirt if you stuck for ideas on how to wear....

Earrings - £3.50

Another River Island goody! Crosses are everywhere right now and this set of three earrings keeps the look simple.

Belt - £4.50

I am totally obsessed with random animal clothes and accessories at the moment and thought this belt was adorable and at £4.50 who can resist??

There are sooooo many more goodies available so take a look!

A Rainy Day in London...Hats Galore

So today was a typically dismal day in London. Grey skies and rain all day with a temperature that didn't go much above 15°C/59°F (if it reached that at all...). I was driving today so didn't have to worry to much about keeping dry but in the spirit of the weather I wore a hat for good measure :-). So for all out there who are facing the similar hair-raising dilemma of keeping your hair dry while still looking good, here are some cool (and rather affordable) hats currently on the market!
H&M - £7.99

This is my current staple hat! It's currently sold out in black online but can be found instore all year round.

Maxi Dress For All Weathers...

Time for the first "for all weathers" post! To begin with, what I'll mainly be offering are styling ideas but eventually these post will be fully made up of affordable, currently in-store items available to buy. I am currently obsessed with all things maxi (along with all things midi) and have therefore been trying to work out how I can intergrate my maxi's into my fast approaching winter wardrobe.

Maximum Maxidress...

What do you think? Any ideas or suggestions? Let me know.
